INDIANA PRIMARY ELECTION TUESDAY JUNE 2ND
I’m DREW. I’m 31-years old, born a Chicagoan but raised a Hoosier. I’ve lived in South Bend, Indiana for the past 15 years. My family is here. I’ve educated myself here. I’ve built my life here. I’m invested in the 6th District. This place is my home and it’s time the Indiana State Legislature looks and feels more like OUR 6th District.
I’m the son of working-class parents. I’m a first-generation high school and college graduate. I graduated from Riley High School and earned my bachelor’s from Indiana University South Bend. I’m home grown and deeply rooted in this community.
I have three sisters, two nieces and three nephews all living here in South Bend. All of us kids were educated in South Bend City Public Schools.
Politics have personal meaning to me. The Affordable Care Act and Medicaid saved my life. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). NHL took so much from me. I didn’t walk with my high school graduating class and had to drop out. NHL took my hair. It took my energy and vitality. I watched as the cost of treatment and medical bills crushed my already, poor family. That year and a half of treatment was one of the toughest in my life thus far. NHL took everything, but it also taught me valuable lessons.
I learned how to be tough. I learned how to listen and learn from experts. I learned how to be humble and hopeful, even when the results appeared to favor negative.
